Weekend with My Buddies

On last saturday I had a duty to brought 3 of my friends from UMS Malaysia to Mojokerto, I ask Ahong and Jono to come out with me. My malaysian friend will take on the job training course in PT. Multi Bintang Indonesia (MBI). The days before, Mr. Jadid as my lecturer ask me to bring them there by using Uber as our transportation. However, it may cost more than the budget that he given to me. Therefore I borrow Jono's car and luckily he also has a schedule in Mojokerto on that day, so we can go together.

Following the instruction from Mr Jadid, I decide that our first destination is Mr Sutrisno house because it would be their inn for 1 month. After reach Mojokerto, we are looking for Mr. Sutrisno house which located near the factory and that's true, the home is next to the factory. The house looks fabulous, rocky road along the way, so many threes as far as i can see, and there is paddy field in front of the house. First look, the house has big door which can accomodate a buffalo. Get inside, a traditional housing style was presented with modern materials and furnitures. It has 8 bedrooms in first floor and 2 bedrooms in second floor, musholla, three bathroom and one kitchen as well. Room space is wide but there's only few furnitures. Each bedrooms has its own 2x2 window, fan, shelf, and bed. The two-way stairs is placed on the opposite of the bathroom. The bathroom is clean, wide, has big tube and shower. Dining room is located in the back, just right before the kitchen entry.

After check the inn condition, I ask my Malaysian friends to fill the payment for 1 month to Mr. Sutrisno. I'm so worry about their further communication with the housekeeper, that's why I finish all of their administration fee on that day. Then we pray ashar together and have a conversation with Mr. Sutrisno and his family for a while. On the evening, Jono ask me, Ahong, and our Malaysian friends to join a dinner together with his family in a restaurant.

A Bitter Day

I have two dear friends who passed  several month ago, Nyimas Fatimah Anggreani and Dani Umar Azis. They passed away unexpectedly, and  rather suddenly. They had traffic accident on the way they back from their trip in Jogja, such a bitter day for me.

For few days, i couldn’t believe that they passed away so quickly. Sometimes, I feel that they were here, still around me.  Remember when they often cheer me up when i got some troubles, get jerk joke on me, have some journey, and all of the crazy things that we spent together.

After all, I feels lucky that i have known them. Not as my friend, but my family. Now, I feel so happy for them. They may have better place right now. Looking on me from up there somewhere. I’m glad that they are still couples, forever after.

Even if i have grown up someday, our memories will keep in my mind, always.

Purr Cat Cafe

4 months ago I have told you about my friend named Fathiya, right? When we were in thailand, she was the bravest girl that I have ever met because she wanted to visit so many unique place in another country alone. On February 14 after the daily program is over, she told me if she wanted to go to some unique place called Purr Cat Cafe. Its commonly called Cat’s Cafe because it had a lot of cats. Because its already sunset, so she asked me to go with her.

That's me with Heng (Middle) and Nitchakan/Nin (Left)

Actually we did not know exactly where it’s located. Fathiya asked two of her thai friends, Heng Thawantit and Nitchakan Nawapusanakanok from Kasetsart University to join with us and I think we have found thai-tour guide without any charge hehe. Along the journey, we had to get ride on BTS but since the BTS station located inside the Siam Paragon Mall so we also have to got down on three stairs at the Mall after took off the ticket. After that we trough the crowd of protesters and walked as far as one kilometers.  Around ten minutes walk from the BTS at Thong Lor on Sukhumvit Soi 53, Purr Cat Cafe is located on a quiet residential street in a small house. Over the cloudy sky I just hope it does not rain until we reached our destination.

Our route to Purr Cat Cafe via Google Map
The Building is look like a cottage-like building. There's a small western garden with white cast iron furniture that gives an anglo and feminine atmosphere before you step inside. The interior is look like a british cottage: the white brick and dark wood walls against dainty armchairs and sofas shout afternoon tea all the way. Innumerable framed cat pictures and photographs tacked on the walls really give a tidy and polished vibe, while even more cat figures and artworks, both vintage and new, decorate every nook and cranny without being too ornate. Two iconic cat heads on the grey brick wall in the first room can also be made to order. This is a place that takes its cats seriously. Before you enter you have to take off your shoes, wash your hands and read the cat rules – don’t poke them, tease them, pick them up or feed them human cake. Totally, we spent around 4 hours in there. Thank you so much to Fathiya and Heng for took their time to shooting the video.

Fall Internship

One week ago, my class went to Majapahit Agro Lestari Hotel, Mojokerto. We had some internship about plant's taxonomy there. We collected morphology and property data from every plants and looking for some type of plants that would be needed for our next practicum. I had talk a bit about Majapahit Agro Lestari (MAL) on my last post "Journey to Cangar". On that post I have little discussed about this place and take some photo of me (who cares, no one want to know about it, haha).

MAL is a natural hotel which located on Mojokerto highland. Thousands of plant species, Cold and cool air, hum of the insects, the smell of the forest litter, acres of pinery, ledge type of waterfall, bla bla bla~ such a beautiful sight and wonderful thing~ You couldn't find any single thing above in Surabaya. MAL use concept of artificial forest inside, and natural forest outside the building. Like another hotel, it must be have various facility such as swimming pool, gym, outbound, rafting, family gathering spot, etc. For the rooms, they use concept of natural village house in deep country, so there was many of ‘true’ farmer who had worked around the hotel, just like the real deep country.

I have many activities there, made a monograph, plants identification, calculated the population density, had a lunch, studied about TOGA plants, took some photos, etc. Actually, depend on the schedule, actually we back to Surabaya at 18.00. The fact we back to surabaya on the evening (around 16.00). For some reason, We had to come back early. But I feel so happy, that was a different experience for me to study at the ‘real place’  for the scientist, especially for biologist. (since it was my first internship).

How about yours? Did you have any internship yet, fellas?
Thank you for reading my article, see yaa next time x)

Journey to Cangar

First of all, I just want to say that I feel so Sorry if I haven't post any articles on this month. Then I ' ll tell you about the why I couldn’t post any articles this month. Actually I have so many activites and project so that I can't post an article daily. Four days earlier, I have difficult day, a day with full of lecture activity, organization committe meeting, facilitator meeting, department's event, strategic studies and advocacy, bla blaa blaaa blaaaa, etc. and truthfully, that's makes me feel so booored.

Sometimes, I think that it would be better if I take some rest. Something that more exciting than study on campus or just stay at home and keep in touch with my laptop. Maybe move away from here for a while will be the greatest idea. So, three days ago (Friday), my friends suggest me to take a trip to another city. They give me two options. First option, they suggest me to go to Taman Lawang (we can called it a dead city just like a Bone County in Grand Theft Auto) or the second option is Cangar, Mojokerto. It was a wide city where a wide range of animals and insects live in, just like San Isabel National Forest in Colorado, USA. On Saturday, We have decided to 'Move Out' from here, and we pick the second option, a forest  trip to Cangar.

On Sunday 06.00 AM, I have well prepared to go to Cangar with eight of my friends, Rizal, Umar, Daniar, Rizki, Novi, Rizka, Irma, and Anisa. We used 5 motorcycle, each motorcycle consist of two persons except Daniar’s. Actually he was with Maharah, but because of some reasons, she couldn’t participate. 07.00 we regroup our contingent in the gas station to refuel and then started our journey.

We stopped several times on the way to Cangar, we stopped once in Malang to have some breakfast, twice in Batu to refuel our tank and because of Rizki and Rizka falling down from their motorcycle and we stopped once in Selecta to have Dhuhur pray at the Jami’ Baiturrahman mosque. I tell you about a little story when I was at the mosque, Jami’ Baiturrahman was not so great, it had medium size for a mosque. But that mosque had everything inside and trust me, the carpet smelling so good #haha.

After a hour, on 13.20 we've got safely at Cangar, precisely in the Tahura Park. In that place we explore the forest to searched for fern specimen, take some photos, and stay for a while to have a lunch. After we found what we wants, we head back to Surabaya on 15.15. But before we head back to Surabaya, we stopped at the Mojosari Agro Lestari hotel to survey for internship that will be held next month.

Deep in the forest

I have so much laughter yesterday and I feel so happy. Moreover, When I realize that the next day (today) is a holiday too, I feel more excited. Thus, I have 4 days of from my daily activity on my campus. What a miracle, it was a long holiday in the middle of the busy month. It seems that the Harvest Goddess on Harvest Moon game blessing me this week.
