Hi
Fellas, it has been a long time since my last post about pet. My last post (Preserve the Wolvy) is about animal and I
certainly won’t take a wolf in my home for a pet *giggle*. Today I will share
some article about my new Male Rabbit
which I get from the pet shop a few days ago in Lawang, Malang. I take him in my house at Brawijaya, Malang. I won't take him at Surabaya because it's too damn hot in there and it wouldn't better for him since he was an albino rabbit (probably). Next week, I want to buy a new white persian
cat and female rabbit. May be I
will buy a white persian cat. Well, his name is Kimchi (since he is a male).
The name ‘Kimchi’ is from hangul language. It was Korean food name.
The
word ‘Kimchi’ stands for ‘Kelinci Imut Made In China’. Why I have to give such
a controversial name ? Okay, I have the
reason for that. So the story gonna be like this, when I bought the rabbit, I
had to buy the cage, the foods, the supplement, the medicine and mini carpet
too. While I thought about the rabbit name and looked for the sale carpet in
the same time. There is ‘made in china’ label on it. And then taraaaa !!! Without
thought any longer I give him that name *hahaha*.

My
friend from ARBA, Steve. Said that rabbit is a natural runner. Especially in
the noise situation or in uncomfortable moment. So I have to raise them
carefully and softly. ARBA
is a national club for
domestic rabbit and cavy breeders. which is located in Bloomington, Illinois in
the United States. Its membership is composed of rabbit and cavy breeders
throughout, fanciers, and pet owners in North America and many countries
throughout the world.
He said
that recognize that the younger they are (the rabbit), the quicker they will
become friends. So consider that as you are introducing your rabbits.
Also, as a rule, two does (females) will typically get along, but it can be
harder to get a doe and a buck (male) to become friends and two bucks are more
likely to fight. (This does not usually apply to spayed or neutered animals.)
So I will need to be patient as this could take a couple of weeks or over a
month. It just depends on my rabbits and how willing they are to accept one
another.
Let the
newcomer be alone in it's cage sometimes. Above all, the newcomer needs to have
quiet time alone in its cage to get used to the new home. There should also be
a quarantine period of about six weeks to make sure the rabbit is healthy.
And
then he ask me to never put the strange rabbit into the others cage without
making preparations for the introduction or there could be terrible
consequences. During the first two or three weeks, place the cages so your
rabbits can see each other, but not touch each other. (since I don't have
another rabbit, it doesn't matter)
When I
already have another rabbit he suggest me to slowly move the cages closer
together until the animals can smell each other. When they each feel safe they
can each learn to tolerate the other. Well, I don't know exactly what his means
but I will follow his instruction when I had the another rabbit.
The
next thing to do is let each rabbit out of it's cage separately. Let one rabbit
out, but leave the other in it's cage. Never let them (the rabbits) out
together until neither rabbit shows aggression. Signs of aggression include
biting cage bars (when the other rabbit is near - if my rabbit used to bite
cage bars it could also just be habit), jumping up on the cage attempting to
bite each other, or anything else that looks like one rabbit is defending it's
cage or trying to bite the other. This can sometimes last weeks or months
before the succeed. If they are friendly (the rabbit) at this stage we can try
letting them out together for short periods of time.
For
the next step I can rub onion or garlic all over both animals, especially in
the anal and groin areas, to make them smell similar. To place them in a neutral space where
they can run freely, and where there is no other rabbit's scent to cause them
to fight.
If
they start fighting, I have to separate them quickly. However, end the session on a
good note, when both rabbits are quiet and not fighting. Steve ask me to keep
calm if the rabbits fight at the beginning - with patience, work, and a little
bit of luck, They (The rabbits) will snuggling together happily soon.
