T-Money : Standard Korea Transportation Payment

Hi guys, today i’m going to talk about T-money. In previous post i call it as transit card. Well, the truth is transit card is included in T-money. By using T-money we can use any kind of public transportation. In some cases, it also called as transportation card. It can be used in some convenience stores (which has T-money logo) as various payment, credit or debit.

Paying with T-money is cheaper than paying with cash. T-money can be used in subway, bus and taxi. It’s also can be used when transferring from one bus to another, one subway line to another, or even bus to subway or vice versa within a transfer time limit. When we finish using T-money (usually when we have to back to our country), the remaining balance can be refunded in T-money machine. As far i know, T-money can be used on public buses and subways in several different metropolitan cities and locations including Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Daejeon, Incheon, Daegu and Busan.

How To Use T-money
If we don’t tap your card on the sensors as we get off the bus or exit the subway, we ’ll be charged double the base fare the next time we use public transportation. We can’t have benefit from transfer discounts, either. So, make sure to tap our card at all times when getting off the bus or exiting the subway.

Bus
  1. Upon boarding the bus, place T-money card on the sensor bearing the T-money logo located at the front of the bus until it beeps. The sensor will display the amount charged on the top and the remaining balance at the bottom.
  2. Before getting off from the bus, place the T-money card on the sensor again  until it beeps. It will display any additional charges, which are counted by distance traveled, and can now be used for free transfers within a specific time limit.
Subway
  1. Place T-money card on the sensor bearing the T-money logo located on top of each of the subway turnstiles until it beeps. The sensor will display the amount charged on the top and the remaining balance at the bottom. If we are transferring, the amount charge may appear as “0” (zero).
  2. Place the T-money card on the sensor until it beeps when exiting through the turnstiles. It will display any additional charges, which are levied by distance traveled, and can now be used for free transfers within a specific time limit.
Taxi

I dont know precisely ‘cause i never use taxi when i was there. But my friend said that in these days, many taxis accept payment via T-money card. In general, the payment terminal is affixed between the driver’s seat and the passenger seat. Inform the taxi driver that we want to pay with a T-money card, tap our card on the terminal, and our taxi fare will be automatically paid from our T-money card’s balance.
